Metal safety barriers for crash protection

Often known as either Crash Barriers, Armco Barriers, Armco Crash Barriers or Vehicle Crash Barriers, these corrugated steel barriers protect infrastructure from the dangers of vehicle impact. Armco is widely used in installations such as industrial/retail estates, car parks and warehouse facilities.

These safety barriers protect people, fencing and buildings from damage caused by moving vehicles and forklift trucks. In areas with a significant risk of harm identified, letting a moving vehicle collide with the Armco barrier system is the preferred outcome, rather than letting it continue onward, where it could cause harm to property or people.

The corrugated profile of the steel crash barrier allows it to flex on impact while still maintaining strength. In addition, Armco barriers are designed to ensure that fast-moving vehicles are deflected along the route of the barrier while slow-moving cars or forklifts will be stopped rapidly.

Multiple Barrier Terminals and Post Options

When pedestrians need to be kept segregated from moving vehicles, the Pedestrian End Terminal Armco Section is designed for safety. It creates an end-point free from sharp edges that may cause injury to passing pedestrians. For applications where pedestrians will not be in close proximity to the Armco barrier, a standard wing end (also known as fishtail end) terminal is ideal to terminate the barrier run safely. Barrier posts are also available in concrete-in and base-plated variants. This allows you to securely install the car parking barrier around your site, no matter whether you have a soft substrate or a concrete base.

Straight Armco Beam

Untensioned safety barrier is not suitable for use in highway applications. The corrugated beams are 3.5m overall length with an effective length of 3.2m. Beams are joined using 8 No. M16 x 35mm Lap Bolt sets and posts bolt to the beam using 1 No. M16 x 50 Post Bolt set.

Wing End Armco Terminal – CBTWE

The Wing End Terminal is used to terminate a run of safety barrier. It provides an effective, robust solution in high volume traffic areas. Please note: This terminal end is not suitable for use where pedestrian access is required. Installed using one post (choice available) which also serves to support the end of the barrier.

Pedestrian End Armco Terminal – CBTPE

The Pedestrian End Terminal is used to terminate a run of safety barrier. It provides an effective solution in high volume traffic and pedestrianised areas.

Plastic End Armco Cap – CBTEC

The Plastic End Cap is used to terminate a run of safety barrier. It provides an effective solution in pedestrianised areas. Please note: This Plastic End Cap is not suitable for use where vehicle access is required. Installed by sliding over the end of the beam and held in place with the post bolt set.

90° External Armco Corner – CBC90E

Suitable for use where two runs of barrier meet at 90°, effectively joining and eliminating any gap in the barrier.

Installation is with two posts (choice available) which also serve to support the end of each barrier run, two M16 x 50 post bolt sets, and 16 No. M16 x 35 lap bolt sets.

90° Internal Armco Corner – CBC90I

Suitable for use where two runs of barrier meet at 90°, effectively joining and eliminating any gap in the barrier.

45° External Armco Corner – CBC45E

The 45° External Corner Connector is suitable for use where two runs of barrier meet at 45°, effectively joining and eliminating any gap in the barrier.

Sprung Armco Barrier Bracket – CBPSBB

The Sprung Barrier Bracket offers a heavy duty and flexible system which allows the barrier to deflect and spring back into place after impact. It is widely used in industrial and logistics warehousing and is particularly useful in areas where forklifts are operating. The post is surface mounted and is compatible with both the Corrugated and Open Box Beam barrier systems.

Concrete in Post 100x44mm ‘Z’ section x 1200mm long – CBPZ100

Steel posts in ‘Z’ section have been the traditional and time served choice for a number of years and are suitable for commercial areas, car parks and industrial parks, etc.

These posts are suitable for non highway use and where frequent contact is likely. Compatible with both the Corrugated and Open Box Beam barrier systems.

Concrete in Post 125x90mm ‘Z’ section (two lengths available) – CBPZ125

Steel ‘Z’ section posts have been the traditional and time served choice for a number of years, used in commercial areas, car and industrial parks, etc. These posts are suitable for non highway use and where frequent contact is likely. Compatible with both the Corrugated and Open Box Beam barrier systems.

A crash barrier generally refers to a strong fence positioned on the side of a road or in the middle of a two-way road. These crash barriers are meant to reduce the risk of serious accidents. They can also be used as security barriers to protect people or buildings from vehicles or other manually operated equipment such as a forklift.

An Armco crash barrier absorbs the impact of a crash when a vehicle loses control. The Armco barrier is developed in a ‘W’ shape, referred to as an Untensioned Corrugated Beam. It’s this W shape that enables Armco products to absorb the impact of cars and other vehicles.

When a vehicle crashes into the barrier, it absorbs and redistributes the impact of the collision, to lessen the blow to the vehicle. Additionally, it provides greater protection to people, expensive equipment or buildings which may be positioned on the opposite side of the barrier.

All Armco barrier supplies are made of corrugated steel and galvanised with a layer of zinc to stop them from rusting and weakening over time. This allows them to provide maximum protection for both indoor and outdoor use.
